What is a Bach Flower Remedy?

My first introduction to the Bach Flower Remedies was back in the 1990s when I was showing dogs. I used a product called Rescue Remedy with my dog. Rescue remedy contains: Star of Bethlehem for comfort, Rock Rose for fearlessness, Clematis for focus, Impatiens for patience, and Cherry Plum for composure. Little did I know then that the product was homeopathic or how it was developed or how homeopathy would one day help me stay healthy.

Dr. Edward Bach, a physician and homeopath in the 1930s, developed a system of 7 families of 38 remedies using flowers. Dr. Bach was convinced that emotional wellbeing was key to overall health. Dr. Bach dedicated his life exploring the use of flowers and plants to bring a simple, natural and gentler approach to emotional balance. He eventually went on to create The Bach Centre in Oxfordshire, England, where he developed the 38 remedies still available today. The Bach Centre partnered with Nelsons Pharmacy to help process and bottle the remedies. Nelsons is still responsible for the signature Bach brand remedies and is the only manufacturer endorsed by Dr. Bach’s signature. Nelsons produces the full 38 remedies using Dr. Bach’s original methods including the sourcing of handpicked plants and flowers from the same sites as Dr. Bach used like the original gardens at The Bach Centre.
